US Coast Guard employees are not being paid during the government shutdown. Over 3,000 active duty and reserve members, civilian employees, and Coast Guard Auxiliarists stationed in the Pacific Northwest are working without pay.
Coast Guard families don’t know how they will pay their mortgages or rent, medical bills, childcare and other expenses. Some Coast Guard families in Washington State have no money for basic food items and household supplies.
Recently the food bank at the Seattle Coast Guard Station has experienced massive shortages. Some days the food bank supplies have been completely depleted. Supplies are going out faster than they are coming in.
Please ask your friends and neighbors to make a donation of non-perishable food, personal items, household supplies, or baby items this Saturday, January 26, 2019, 10am-3pm, at the Fred Meyer stores in Ballard or Issaquah between 10:00am and 3:00pm.
Marcus Trufant, former Seattle Seahawk, will be signing autographs and taking photos with donors at the Fred Meyer in Ballard (915 NW 45th St, Seattle).
Or they can make a financial donation to Coast Guard families at www.usonw.org/donate
Every day we are posting updates about the event and additional community support on this webpage.
Thank you so much for your support!
